Jolyon Palmer press release
Flying start for Jolyon Palmer in first pre-season GP2 test
Southwater racer shows front-running pace throughout 3 days at Jerez
West Sussex racer Jolyon Palmer made an impressive start to his 2012 GP2 preparations by displaying front-running pace throughout this week’s three-day pre-season test in Jerez.
The 21-year-old, driving for British team iSport this year after a promising rookie campaign in 2011 with Arden, was consistently lapping amongst the top five drivers and never once failed to finish outside the top 10.
Jolyon made a strong start to the opening day of testing at the Spanish circuit finishing third quickest overall against a highly competitive field of 26 top international drivers. Over the second and third days Jolyon, son of former F1 driver Jonathan, focused mainly on longer race simulations in preparation for the opening rounds of the season in Malaysia at the end of the month, finishing an encouraging fifth and tenth respectively.
“Overall I'm very happy with how the test has gone,” said Jolyon, who lives in Southwater. The iSport team are doing a great job and we are in the top five or six almost every time we run. Hopefully we can step it up another gear when we continue testing in Barcelona next week."
Jolyon returns to Spain on 6-8 March for a further three days of testing in the F1 feeder series before flying out to Malaysia on 23-25 March for rounds one and two.
