Borja Garcia in top 10 again!

Borja Garcia's ascending performance during the tlast races was underlined by the Friday results of GP2 Series' 9 h round being held at the Istanbul Park. Starting Saturday's race from 9th position leaves the Spaniard with the option to score points again.

Ninth on the starting grid on a race track completely new for everyone in the field demonstrate Borja Garcia's improvements during the last race meetings. If so far this year the young Racing Engineering driver had to face penalties and a lot of bad luck, he now definitely starts to stabilize his position in this championship. During the two first sessions held on the recently finished Turkish race track Borja was able to always deliver a profound performance obtaining good positions. Borja finished the morning session in an excellent 5th position and was in 6th throughout most of the afternoon qualifying. Starting the race from the 5th row leaves all opportunities open for Borja, who should be able to score points during the long Saturday race.

Neel Jani, winner of the Saturday race at the last meeting in Hungary, suffered from a mistake during his fast lap on new tyres. Neel was too fast in the first two left corners in the first sector and went off track. Where others might have not been able to avoid a serious crash, the Swiss in the Racing Engineering outfit was able to not only bring his car back on track, but also marked his fastest time the following lap. Neel, definitely being better driver than displayed in today's qualifying results, will surely push hard starting from 12th position and do everything possible to make it to the points.

After the qualifying session Borja Garcia announced, "I think P9 is ok. The car went well throughout the entire session and felt fine everywhere. However, there is one corner in the first sector, where I experienced a lot of understeer and lost quite some time. In the other sectors I am quick. When I had the second set of new tyres mounted, I was only able to do one fast lap as it started to rain and there were permanently yellow flags due to cars going off the track. The circuit itself is great and fun to drive on".

Neel Jani said, "I was not bad with my first set of tyres, but knew there can be improvements. I was faster then with my second set of tyres until I reached the four left hand corners. I took the first two flat in 5th gear and hit the asphalt as a result. I almost felt like a skier and had a hard time avoiding an accident. I marked my fastest lap time during the following lap losing the opportunity to reach the 5th or 6th position. I am sure tomorrow we will have a great race as it's a very beautiful and well designed race track. In my opinion it is the most interesting track among the new ones".

Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon commented, "After Borja was 5th in the morning session, we maybe expected a bit more, but it's great that he is within the top ten on the starting grid again. With a good start, pit stop and race strategy, he should be able to score points. The weather predictions say we might have rain and everyone knows that Borja is really fast under wet conditions. As for Neel, I am really happy he could keep his car on track. He pushed hard during the first lap on his second set of new tyres. But I guess a bit too hard really and it's a pity as he was on the way for a good starting position. But he was able to improve his lap time the following lap and will start 12th. I am sure he will do his best to make it into the points".
