Javier Villa finished in fifteenth place in the GP2 series feature race held this afternoon at Istanbul Park.
After starting from last position on the grid following the penalty handed to Villa after the Hungary race, the Spaniard had quite a reasonable start, getting away quickly and making up several places in the sprint to the first corner. However as Villa arrived there, diving to the inside he was forced into a spin as several of the cars in front of him turned in.
As a result, Villa was back to last place again and, even worse, losing contact with the group. But Javi didn't give up, he started to lap quicker than the drivers ahead of him and was soon in touch with them again.
From there on Villa was steadily recovering places, fighting hard and finally finishing in fifteenth, a position that will allow him to face tomorrow's race from a better place than today.
The most positive thing for Javi, in addition to finishing yet another race, was the good feeling he got at the wheel of his Racing Engineering Dallara. The work done yesterday in qualifying to find a good race setup paid off and the car was handling quite well and it stayed consistent from start to finish allowing Villa to run comfortably throughout the race.
Javier Villa's own words: "It was not that bad, I finished fifteenth from last on the grid. Yesterday we put the race set-up on the car for qualifying, and it is really good. I started well, and then at the first corner I went to the inside, the guys in the middle turned in, and then I was spun around. After the first corner I started seven seconds behind all the runners, but I fought back well. I'm really happy with the car today, the team did a great job."
