A nice 11th place in this weekend's first GP2-race showed the good part of Ho-Pin Tungs' results in Turkey. A DNF in the second race was the dark side. The Chinese driver is convinced that his result on Saturday could have been even better if he would have had an earlier pit stop. On Sunday his engine stalled at the start grid. 'It was my own fault,' was the fair comment of the fastest Chinese on four wheels.
The good results of last year could not be repeated in this years' edition of the Turkish GP-2 main series. Already in Friday's free practice session things did no go very well. 'We had to look for a good set up of the car and this took much time.' Qualification was troubled by many yellow flag situations. 'I had to slow down in my last and fastest lap because of the yellow.' This brought him not more than a 19th place on the grid, which was changed to 15th due to punishments to several other drivers.
'I had a rocket start again and claimed 9th position after the first lap. It was a shame that I pitted so late. After my pit stop the car was quick on the new rubber and I could have taken more advantage of that.'
At the start of Race 2, on Sunday, the engine of his Trident car stalled on the grid. 'I had too much grip,' was the bitter comment of Ho-Pin. 'It is a pity that we did not scored points where we had a fair chance to do so.' Ho-Pin is looking forward to the races in Monaco, the next stop of the circus. 'In the mean time I will go to Italy, to the team, to get me a new seat foamed. With a new seat everything will go better,' says Ho-Pin Tung grumbling.
Next race: Monte Carlo, Monaco, May 24th.
