The Direxiv Motorsport drivers Hiroki Yoshimoto, Clivio Piccione and Olivier Pla had a trying time in qualifying at the brand new Istanbul facility. BCN driver Yoshimoto faired best and will start from 10th on the grid. Piccione (Durango) failed to string together a good lap and starts a disappointing 20th, while David Price Racing's Olivier Pla had a frustrating time as electrical gremlins limited his running, which leaves him 23rd for tomorrow's race.
Hiroki Yoshimoto, BCN Competicion: 10th - 1m39.737s
"I am so annoyed. After the first run we knew the tyres were really only good for one lap, so on the second set I geared myself up to go for one really quick lap. It was going really well when I came up behind [Can] Artam through the fast left-hander. He just didn't get out of my way and even braked early - there was just no need for it. Tenth is not bad, but it should have been a lot better, I think top four was possible."
Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team: 20th - 1m40.770s
"There's just one word to describe that. I had understeer through the triple apex left-hander and that's where I was losing all my time. But I didn't really put all the sectors together for a really good lap. We made some changes to the front end before the second set of tyres, but it started to drizzle on that lap. I'm confident that we will be better tomorrow and my aim has to be top eight."
Olivier Pla, David Price Racing: 23rd - 1m40.956s
"What can I say? I've done three fast laps in two sessions. It's a real shame because I think this is a great track. I just have to hope that the car is fixed for tomorrow."
Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport:
"This was a frustrating session for all drivers, where none was able to maximise his potential. Hiro is obviously in competitive form and so he should have a chance to pull up some positions in the race. Hopefully work done on Clivio and Olivier's cars overnight will see them in better shape for tomorrow."
