DAMS & LOPEZ FAST IN ISTANBUL, LOST OPORTUNITIES TO TAKE BIG POINTS IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. AFTER A GOOD QUALIFYING FAUZY DISAPPOINTED BY RACE RESULTS.

Istanbul was a frustrating weekend for DAMS drivers after one of the best result in qualifying since the beginning of the season. Jose Maria LOPEZ took 3rd place, at 1 tenth of a second from poleman ROSBERG, Fairuz FAUZY took 15th place in a very tight session, less than 1 tenth from championship leader KOVALAINEN. DAMS has shown one more time that the team was competitive and the hard work has been converted in performance progress.

The team started Saturday's race with high confidence, LOPEZ and the technical crew admitted that pole position was possible on Friday. Unfortunately, early in Saturday's race (2nd lap) the safety car came in after JANI's crash. The 4 leading cars including LOPEZ who was 3rd stayed on the track as most of the other ones was coming in the pits to make their mandatory tyre change. In the end, LOPEZ and the 3 other drivers who stayed on track during this Safety Car lost the benefit of their position, Scott SPEED who was 2nd and LOPEZ who was 3rd finished at 5th and 6th final places thanks to a strong race and a very high level of performance. Fairuz FAUZY did not finish race 1.

On Sunday weather conditions disturbed the race as the rain came in while the cars were on the grid. On wet conditions Jose Maria took an impressive start from the second row (3rd on the grid) to take the lead in corner 1. Unfortunately he lost some positions during the 1st lap as track conditions were completely new and very slippery, the main difficulty was to stay on track and push at the same time. LOPEZ finished near the points at 7th place. Fairuz FAUZY finished at 15th place, which was a disappointing result as the progress made all over Friday's sessions could have given to the young Malaysian good final results in this very new circuit.

The team has worked very hard to make significant progresses and be in the pace, and the results in qualifying showed that DAMS was at the top as in several meetings this year. In the races the team was quite unlucky and missed good opportunities, but everyone in the team is aiming race wins in the final events after coming back in the top performers.
