After yesterday’s qualifying session, Ericsson started 3rd on the grid, and team mate Jolyon Palmer 6th, with both going out on the Supersoft Option tyres. Ericsson got off to a fantastic start, passing Chilton in the opening lap, and then remaining on the tail of leader Cecotto for the majority of the race. Ericsson in the final laps was only 0.5 seconds between the two drivers, but with a few passing opportunities Ericsson was unable to overtake, taking a podium finish in 2nd place.

Palmer remained in 6th place during the early laps, despite pressure from Valsecchi. On lap 9 the British driver was on the tail of Razia and Chilton, however again the lack of opportunity to overtake held the driver off from making his move. After pitting in lap 20, Palmer lost his 9th position to Gutierrez, however immediately regained his position retaking him. Palmer then moved up to 6th place after a number of drivers pitted, with the driver remaining in that position for the remainder of the race.

Paul Jackson – Team Principal “A great team result with both drivers having very strong performances, which is a just reward to all the mechanics and engineers who have worked so hard over the past weeks. Marcus has suffered some extraordinary bad luck over the early races this season and has now come through that and shown everybody what he is capable of, and Jolyon has endured an ongoing electrical gremlin which has hurt his early campaign, likewise, he was able to show today that he has genuine front running pace, and is looking forward to tomorrow’s race with more confidence. A big thank you to all our staff, and all at GP2 technical support, who worked all the extra hours asked of them.”
