Hiroki Yoshimoto claimed the first podium of the GP2 season for Direxiv in race 2 at Imola. The young Japanese driver crossed the finish line in his BCN Competicion racecar in third place in the sprint race. Having collected 5 points over the race weekend, Hiroki now lies in 8th place in the Drivers Championship.

From pole on the grid, Hiroki got off to a perfect start, immediately taking the race lead. A crash on the start finish straight caused the immediate deployment of the Safety Car but as the race took off again on lap 4 Hiroki held his position at the head of the pack. By lap 8 Hiroki could no longer hold back the faster cars of Viso and Piquet Jnr. Hiroki drove a strong race to cross the line in third and take his first podium of the 2006 GP2 championship.

Hiroki Yoshimoto:

"I got a good start and maintained the lead after the Safety Car. But Viso and Piquet were very quick. I held my ground as much as possible but couldn't hold them off. It's good to be on the podium but of course I am disappointed not to be on the top step. I'm looking forward to the next race now, I want to win very soon, I don't want to wait anymore."

Misato Haga, President and CEO of Direxiv:

"Hiroki did a great job and he really deserved to be on the podium. He was strong all weekend and scored points in both races and that is what counts in this championship."
