The Rapax team scored its fifth win of the GP2 Main Series season at Budapest, thanks to another sensational race by Pastor Maldonado. The Venezuelan driver cruised to victory on race 1 of the 7th 2010 round, increasing his lead in points and dominating since the very early stages. After two aborted starts due to other cars stalling, Pastor did a great start and clinched the lead by turn 1.
On the whole distance, and despite the two safety-car periods due to crashes, Maldonado controlled the situation perfectly, managing his advantage over the main rivals and profiting from an almost perfect pit-stop, as he emerged from the pit-lane still in the lead. Luiz Razia experienced a positive race too, thanks to an aggressive drive and several well-timed passes. The Brazilian ended up in 10th, just missing the points zone. Tomorrow's 28-lap long race will be taking off at 10:35, with live coverage in Italy by RAI2.
Pastor Maldonado. "In qualifying we scored fourth , but I knew we had a lot more potential than that, and we didn't express it due to traffic. I was really looking forward to the race, and everything ended up like it should. We were the fastest around, I'm in great shape physically and the car is unbeliavably consistent. As a result, we collected another great win, and I hope to complete the job by scoring some points tomorrow."
Luiz Razia. "In the end, I can say I'm satisfied with my race. We made some changes to the car's set-up together with the team, in order to be as fast as possible while running behind others, and it proved a right choice. Of course, on this racetrack passing is really difficult. But I managed to recover some spots; now I hope for a good race on Sunday too."
