Racing Engineering's Neel Jani wins!
Sooner or later it had to happen, and it took place in Hungary . Racing Engineering has proven from the beginning that it has a car at the level of the best and that Neel Jani is an excellent driver. Thus, during the 42-lap race at the Hungaroring, everything fell into place and Racing Engineering celebrated its first win in the GP2 Series with Neel Jani.
There are many ways to win. There are wins due to chance, thanks to technical problems or driving mistakes. There are also specialists in finishing Saturday's race in 8th position and like this start Sunday's race from pole position, driving to a win. But there are also other wins. Those, which are achieved by being the fastest in qualifying and then during the race staying in this position from the green light until the checkered flag. And this kind of victory, Neel Jani and Racing Engineering achieved today . A win through good hard work. Basically an overwhelming victory. This was the win of a team that with each race that goes by, becomes more and more competitive. And that's why this was a win by an entire team. There's only one who climbs onto the podium, but from the trucky to the team manager, every member of the team is an important part in making this win possible. Today's victory was the best result obtained by a Spanish team in this championship to date. Racing Engineering has definitively positioned itself in the same league as Arden, Super Nova, ART Grand Prix... the elite of European single seater racing right after Formula 1.
It is a pity however, that Borja Garcia wasn't able to obtain any points like his teammate. But that's racing and sometimes a wheel nut gets stuck during a tyre change as it has already happened to almost all the teams at one point or another. And in Borja's case, all the hard work during the weekend so far was ruined. Without this problem and even keeping in mind that Borja had a car with a bit of oversteer towards the end of the race, the Racing Engineering driver could have made it to a 7th or 8th position. Nevertheless, the balance is positive as Borja has made some incredible improvements during the last races and what didn't go well today, should be back in line for the next race. The important part is to continue along with this rhythm of progress and improvement.
A very happy Neel jani commented after his win, "Perfect! I had pole position and a start to finish win. I really want to thank my team for the car they gave me. Today the car was better than ever before. Towards the end of the race I had some small problems, but it's good to know that we still have some things we can improve. I had one or two hairy situations during the race with Kovalainen, but in the end I stayed ahead of him. I am really happy, for myself and my team, that we finally won".
Borja Garcia said, "At the beginning the car was good, but it's a known fact that it's very hard to overtake at the Hungaroring. Towards the end of the race I had some oversteer, so I just wanted to keep my position".
A content Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón concludes, "What a race! Neel did a fantastic job. He has finally shown what a champion he is and I am sure it won't be the last one. Congratulations to the entire team. Absolutely everyone did a fantastic job and I think we deserve a big celebration".
