ROMAIN GROSJEAN FINISHES 4th, VITALY PETROV COMES HOME IN 12th
THE BARWA ADDAX TEAM DRIVERS PUT UP GOOD PERFORMANCES.
The second GP2 Series race took place this morning at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest with Romain Grosjean finishing in a great 4th place and his team mate Vitaly Petrov passing the chequered flag in a meritorious 12th place. There can be no doubt that the Barwa Addax Team drivers have both driven superb races.
Romain was fighting for a place on the podium despite having started from tenth position on the starting grid. This is one of the tightest circuits in the F1 calendar, where there were only three overtaking manoeuvres in F1 last season and just two the year before, which gives an idea of how difficult it is to pass on this track. Romain has virtually overtaken the whole field, after having started the first race in last position due to circumstances. The French-Swiss driver demonstrated his true class and the fine work carried out by the whole Barwa Addax Team has shown that when he isn't dogged by bad luck he is always up there with the best.
Vitaly Petrov also made a great fightback, climbing eight positions to finish twelfth from his twentieth start position. Overtaking eight rivals on this track is a worthy but with little reward for the hard work that both he and the whole Barwa Addax Team have carried out this weekend. However bad luck has followed them all weekend, starting with the faulty engine which scuppered chance they may have had to make inroads on the championship. It is hoped that this hasn't spoilt the possibility of fighting it out for the overall championship. The Russian driver deserves at least the chance to be there at the end.
After having completed six of the ten events that make up the championship, the driver's championship looks to be between four drivers two of which are the drivers of the Barwa Addax Team. Romain. Grosjean remains second overall, after having reduced the difference with the leader by three points. Vitaly Petrov finds himself in fourth position, having been unable to pick up points in a weekend where the bad luck concerning the new engine sealed his fate.
The team championship is now a head to head between two teams who are way out in front of the rest with more than double the points of the third placed team. Barwa Addax Team is second overall on 86 points only two points behind the leaders.
The knives are out and the championship is now set up for an exciting weekend in Spain. The seventh event will take place at the Valencia Street Circuit from the 21st to the 23rd of August.
