4 laps to the podium...

The first of the two races of this week-end ended on a retirement for Sebastien Buemi. Things had begun fairly well: right at the start, the Swiss driver had gained a position. Third behind Giorgio Pantano and Romain Grosjean, he managed to handle the pressure from Luca di Grassi, then from Bruno Senna despite brake problems.

He was about to finish on the podium when he went off, four laps to the chequered flag. That mistake happened at the Sachs curve, as the rain went heavier just there - many other drivers got caught at the same place after him.

Sebastien Buemi: "It's a real shame, as a podium finish was on the cards today. I had big brakes problems during the race, as my wheels tended to block as soon as I hit the brake pedal. On each lap, Senna was able to close on me by half a second at the hairpin. That said, I think I could have kept him behind until the chequered flag. When it started to rain, he went off and I slowed down quite significantly. But rain stopped on the other end of the circuit, and the grip came back. But it was wet again at the braking point of the Sachs curve. There was no sign of it, as there wasn't any car out yet at this point, and I couldn't do anything to stop the car..."
