PENALTY STIFLES PIC'S PROMISE

Charles Pic appeared set for another strong points finish in this morning's GP2 Series sprint at Hockenheim -- but a penalty put paid to that. The Frenchman dropped from sixth to eighth during the race's opening stages, but rapidly fought his way back into the top six. He then incurred the stewards' wrath, however, for excessive use of the run-off area at Turn One: the resultant drive-through penalty dropped him to 17th.

Team-mate Rodolfo Gonzalez made up a couple of early positions, after starting 17th, but he retired with a broken rear wing after running wide over a kerb.

Charles:

"I made a reasonable start and the race went OK during the first few laps. My tyres began to go off at half-distance, though, and I began to struggle to maintain my pace. It was also increasingly difficult to keep the car on the track -- and then I was given a penalty for using the run-off area at Turn One. That was the end of my race, really, although this has mostly been a positive weekend. Now I have to focus on preparing myself for Budapest. There isn't much time -- and conditions wil certainly be much hotter."

Rodolfo:

"It's a shame that rear wing failure ended my race. I made another good start and enjoyed a firm but fair fight with Johnny Cecotto -- a nice all-Venezuelan battle! I flat-spotted my front left tyre quite early on, but my race pace was still good and that's an encouraging sign for Budapest. The main thing now is to work on my qualifying performances."
