SERGIO PEREZ OFFERS YET ANOTHER DRIVING EXHIBITION WITH A WIN IN GERMANY.
VICTORY FOR BARWA ADDAX TEAM IN HOCKENHEIM.
Sergio Perez has given yet another demonstration of driving of the highest order winning the second GP2 race at the German circuit of Hockenheim . He started from 7th position on the grid, thanks to his second place finish yesterday, to win with a lot in hand. Barwa Addax Team secure their third win of the season. Giedo van der Garde fought back to finish ninth in this morning's race.
There is very little to add after Sergio Perez showed signs of his true class in Hockenheim. Sergio started from 7th position on the grid after having finished second in yesterday's first race. He started quite well but hehad no intention of getting involved in the fight ahead between Maldonado and Pic, in the initial part of the race and adopted a more conservative approach, finishing the first lap in seventh position. From this point on he started a series of magnificent overtaking as he left his rivals in his wake, going on to win with plenty in hand. Perez showed his true class once he took the lead, setting consecutive fastest lap times and gaining more than a second a lap on his rivals, to finish the race with a comfortable victory, including the fastest lap time of the race. The young Mexican driver has shown once more to all around that he has a special talent and after his magnificent performance today, there can be no doubt that he should be fighting for the driver's championship with the overall leader of the event.
Giedo van der Garde drove a solid race. He climbed three positions from his 12th place start to finish 9th but unfortunately it was not enough to get him into the points of this second sprint race. He kept up the same race rhythm as most of his rivals on track, but yesterday's incident conditioned today's result with the difficulties involved making progress in such a short race. Giedo still has time to give the Barwa Addax Team joy for the remainder of this year's championship.
Barwa Addax Team have picked up more points than any other team this weekend. They not only hold on to their second place overall in the race for the team title, but have even managed to pull back five points on the leading team and have stretched away from those behind in the rankings.
Sergio Perez moves up to to second position in the driver's championship, reducing the differences with the overall leader. This is an indication that without the bad luck that pursued him at the start of this year's campaign, Sergio would be fighting for the championship with options of winning. Giedo remains firm in fifth position with hopes of accumulating more points in the next races.
The next GP2 event takes place at the Hungarian circuit of Hungaroring alongside the Formula 1 race, next weekend.
