ART Grand Prix recorded the first one-two of the GP2 championship series at Hockenheim this weekend, the 13th event of the season. Nico Rosberg was essential in the first race after a brilliant start from his pole position, while teammate Alexandre Premat, 3rd on the grid, had a very early pit stop in order to have maximum attack and it worked as when leaving his pit in the last part of the race, Scott Speed saw Alex go through to claim the second step of the podium.
The Sunday race was a more spectacular for the two ART drivers as Alexandre was in 6th place after just a few hundred meters, but then lost the benefit of his great start because of certain competitors that were far too optimistic and sent him back to the 10th row. Meanwhile, Nico managed to cut a path through to 4th place, and stole second place in a daring manoeuvre that could have enabled him to overtake both Scott Speed and Giorgio Pantano.
However, the German lost the control of the rear of his Dallara and spun but fortunately the car was undamaged and Nico did not lose any position. Finishing in 4th place overall thanks to his victory the day before, Nico is just six points off the leader, Heikki Kovalainen in the drivers championship. Alexandre climbed to the sixth rung with 32 points, one behind Bruni and two shy of Carroll. ART Grand Prix have extended their lead in the Constructors championship, 14 points ahead of Arden.
Frederic Vasseur: We did it all in the first race, with pole position, fastest lap and a one two finish, a first in the championship and something the team can be very proud of achieving. It is very satisfactory that we didn't make any errors all weekend and I think that we have strengthened our position further from France and Great Britain. The only flat spot was the incident where Alex was the victim in the second race.
Alexandre Premat: The first race was a treat. 3rd in qualifying and 8 points to add to the championship, however the second race was frustrating. I could have had more points if it wasn't for the tussle in the first lap, at the hairpin. I also had gear box problems and we had to change it before the race. The staging was not any more the same one and I passed into 4 instead of 5 in certain key places. Overall the weekend was very positive. There is only one step of the podium on which I did not climb on, it is the top one, and I hope to do it in the next race!
Nico Rosberg : That really was a great race for me. I got a very good start and then I was able to open up a good gap. The pit-stop worked out very well. I took it easy because I didn't want to take any unnecessary risk. Out in front again I was able to pull a 15 seconds gap on my team-mate. It was very special here in Hockenheim as I think I have quite a few supporters here. I hope I got Heikki a bit nervous, although I don't want to think about the championship at the moment.
