GP2 series resumed tests today in Circuit Paul Ricard Hich Tech Test Track in Le Castellet, France where ART Grand Prix's new driver Lewis Hamilton set the pace followed by Super Nova`s men José María López and Lucas Di Grassi taking third quickest for the Durango team.

With the "3D" track solution at Circuit Paul Ricard, the journey was split in two with the morning session complicated due to the rain and the consequences of a wet track in the beginning.

However the conditions on the circuit got better with the laps turned by the cars and Hamilton was able, with the new slick tyres, to set a lap 1.9 seconds fastest than the GP2 records with groove tyres.

In the afternoon the track was all dry and Hamilton clocked 1m12.838 after 30 laps in the Dallara-Renault. This time, he was one second faster than the one set in the morning, which means, the Brit was three seconds faster than last year cars.

Argentinean López completed 31 laps with 1m12.957 and was followed by another member of the Renault Driver Development as Di Grassi put the Durango in third place, although 0s7 slower than second fastest.

Alexandre Premat put the other ART Grand Prix car in fourth with a lap time of 1m13.903, a second behind his new teammate. The French racer was followed by two Arden International fellows Michael Ammermueller and Nicolas Lapierre.

Brazilian driver from Piquet Sports, Alexandre Negrao, took seventh best and was the driver that completed the most laps with 54.

New card in DAMS, Franck Perera, alongside Gianmaria Bruni with the new Trident Racing team and Adam Carroll completed the top ten places in day one of pre-season tests.

The activity will continue tomorrow where teams and drivers will continue their work to arrive in the best way for the season opener on April 9th in Valencia, Spain.
