The tens of thousands of fans who packed the grandstands of Monza during the weekend attended two races extremely hard fought, in which both drivers of Venezuela GP Lazarus, Sergio Canamasas and Rene Binder, have played an important role: at the end Monza was probably the best weekend of the season for the Italian team.
The race weekend did not seem to start in the best way: Canamasas in qualifying was able to conquer only the 18th position, while Binder (second race for him in GP2 and debut at Monza) conquered the 21st place, a result that satisfied him.
At this point, the team gets back to work with a single objective: gain positions! When the red lights turned off and race 1 started, Canamasas and Binder started well and without making mistakes and with a good strategy, they gain a few positions to finish respectively at 14th and 17th place.
Even better in race 2: Canamasas, ninth a few kilometers from the end, concludes 11° due to an error while trying to overtake Leal, while Binder crosses the finish line in P13 (starting P17) with a fantastic first lap.
So great satisfaction for the whole team in the home race in front of the fans and sponsors who came to encourage the team.
Tancredi Pagiaro, Team Principal: "We finished the weekend in Monza in the best way, proved once again to be very fast race. For example Binder, P13 at the end, made the best lap in 1.33.732, which is the 5 best lap overall! A very good job for the young Austrian driver that made a very good impression in Monza (and you have to add that he did not know the circuit…)
Good races for Canamasas too, who at the end of race 2 was in P9, struggling with Leal for the points: unfortunately he made a little mistakes and finished P11, but he did a great job.
The growth of the team is very impressive and I can say for sure that we not only deserved GP2 Series, but we are able to fight with teams who have a longer experience with this car and the Pirelli tires.
So I want to thank all the guys who made a good job in Monza and our drivers: Binder and Canamasas demonstrated their talent and proved to be ready for the GP2 Series from the technical and sporting point of view.”
Rene Binder, #19: "Considering my lack of GP2 experience and the fact that I did my first laps in Monza it was an extremely good weekend for us.I fully concentrated on the braking points in the first free practice and was quite surprised that my race pace was pretty competitive.
Especially in the second race, were I managed to set the 5th fastest lap overall, only 2 tenth off the top. I really enjoy every lap in that powerful car and have to thank Team Venezuela GP Lazarus for their great support over the last two weeks."
