Trident Racing captured a top-10 finish today at the Nurburgring, in round 6 of the 2011 GP2 Main Series, currently being hold at the German venue. Rodolfo Gonzalez ended up in 10th in the first race of the weekend, while his team-mate Stefano Coletti was forced to retire after 28 laps out of 34.
Gonzalez ran a clean stint and did not commit mistakes, as he kept lowering his laptimes and climbed back to a spot close to the points zone. Coletti was off to a good start, and in the first 8 laps rebounded up to 11th place. Unfortunately, in the complex moments of the pit-stop, he was allowed to exit the pits too early, while another car was holding the fast lane. The race's stewards considered the incident as a potentially dangerous situation due to the tight pitlane, and assessed Coletti a drive-through.
Following to today's race 1 results, Stefano will take off from the 12th row on tomorrow's starting grid, while Gonzalez will start from the 10th place. The 24-lap long race 2 will go underway at 10:30 AM. Live TV coverage will be provided live by RAI2.
Rodolfo Gonzalez, 09.
“I'm satisfied with the how we ran today and I'm sure that with a better starting spot I could have ended up the race into the points zone. I raced as focused as I possibly could because this time I didn't suffer from irregular tire wear, and I was really a great fit with the car. I improved my position, and my pace proved fast and consistent. I hope to repeat tomorrow, as I'll take-off from the 5th row.”
Stefano Coletti, Ritirato.
“The start has been good as I gained three spot on the fly, before recovering even further before the pit-stop. Unfortunately, at the end of the pit-stop, I was given the all-clear just a little too early, and I had to brake in avoidance of Carroll's car, who was coming down pit-road. The following drive-through virtually ended my chance for a comeback finish”.
