Richelmi, who was at his maiden GP2 Series start, showed an excellent progression over the race, improving his laptimes each time by and getting in touch with his car's full potential.

Gonzalez' race has been conditioned by a contact happened right after the start, at the first chicane. As he suffered from slight damage, he was forced to settle for a top-20 spot, though he positively completed the race with no further incidents.

Following to today's results, Richelmi will take-off from the 8th row for tomorrow's race 2, while Gonzalez will start from the 19th spot. The final, 21-lap race of the 2011 season will be broadcasted live in Italy on RAI 2 at 10:30 CET.

Stéphane Richelmi, 15th

"Today I had the first true occasion to put myself at test with this new racecar. I'm glad I completed the whole race with no mistakes, except for when I overshoot my pit-lane position when I got in for new tires. In the first part of the race I've been really conservative so we could push for a late stop and I even managed to lead the whole thing for a while. When I made my way back on-track, I pushed harder, and I even managed to pull some nice moves. I think I managed to glue with a lot of this car's components and I hope do do a further step forward tomorrow."

Rodolfo Gonzalez, 19th

"My race has been conditioned by the mess happened at the braking for the first corner. I heard an hard hit and braked hard, and luckily enough the engine kept going. Unfortunately, when I re-started I got an unexpected vibration. I tried to complete the whole distance with no major mistakes, but it's been tough because we got some great feedback in qualifying and we could have definitely aimed at a better result today".
