Hungaroring

The first of the two GP2 Main Series races scheduled at the Hungaroring this weekend didn't prove too lucky for Trident Racing. Stefano Coletti ended the race in the 21st position, while Rodolfo Gonzalez had to retire due to a mechanical gearbox issue on lap 22.

Coletti battled for most part of the day amidst the pack, but a contact with another car on lap 34 and the resulting spin forced him to yeld a lot of positions. On the other hand, Gonzalez was penalized with a drive-through by race control after having passed an opponent with yellow flags exposed. He was then forced to retire by a gearbox failure not too much later.

Following to today's race 1 results, Coletti will take-off from 21st on race 2, while Gonzalez will have to settle for row 12. The closing heat of the Budapest weekend is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:40, and will benefit from the usual wide TV coverage of the championship. In Italy, the broadcast will be provided by Rai 2 inside “Numero Uno GP”.

Stefano Coletti, 21st
“The early stages haven't been lucky for me, because I lost some positions at the second corner and I ended up being 15th. Then I ran behind Aleshin for a long time, and with just a few laps to go we touched and I spun. Maybe, if we think at it now, it would have been better to anticipate the change to get some more positions back. If I have to be honest though, I saw other drivers having big troubles with tires because they had stopped too early, so who knows...”

Rodolfo Gonzalez, DNF
“For me it's been a really tough race from the beginning. The drive-through that I got for a pass with the yellow flag exposed literally ended my chances for a comeback. I pulled alongside Julian Leal, whom I was battling with, and I saw the flag really late, when I was already in front of him. Then, after the penalty, the gearbox issues I experienced before got worse and worse, and eventually forced me to stop and retire.”
