Super Nova Racing Budapest Race 1 Report

The race today in Hungaroring proved to be one of attrition, with tyre wear being a big factor in the outcome. Unfortunately this wasn’t a problem for Fairuz, with the Malaysian being taken out of the race at the first corner. Adam struggled for rear grip throughout the race and this was exaggerated even more as the tyres degraded, leaving him helpless to defend towards the end of the race and causing him to lose a number of positions, to end up in 19th at the chequered flag. The race tomorrow promises to be very interesting, with the GP2 drivers having to complete 29 laps on the same set of tyres.

Fairuz Fauzy – DNF
“I’m very disappointed with my race being over at the first corner, after being hit by Cecotto. I made a very good start and had gained around eight places by the first corner before this happened. We made some changes for the race but I still had some oversteer on the laps to the grid, so we decided to change more on the grid and this made the car feel much better on the formation lap - It is just a shame that I didn’t have a chance to try this in the race. We need to work hard to make up ground on some of the others because I still feel we are lacking something, so tomorrow should be interesting. Although with the tyre wear we saw today, I think there will be opportunities to make gains in the race tomorrow.”

Adam Carroll – P19
“A tough day at the office for everybody and unfortunate for Fairuz who was taken out at the first corner. The tyres just go off so quickly and unfortunately I don’t think we have got it quite right. It was just a matter of keeping the car on track towards the end of the race and bringing to home to the finish. We’ve got a lot of work to do tonight and hopefully we can come back better tomorrow.”

David Sears – Team Principal
“Another unlucky and disappointing race, with Fairuz being eliminated on the very first lap by Johnny Cecotto, who seems to have been involved in a number of incidents so far this season with our cars particularly. Adam endured a difficult race, especially since one of his seat belt buckles trapped a nerve and caused him to lose feeling in his right hand. We need to collectively work hard now to be more competitive in the race tomorrow.”
