VALENCIA: SCUDERIA COLONI’S QUALIFYING HAMPERED BY TRAFFIC AND A RED FLAG
Obviously we aren’t where we would like to be...
Michael Herck and Kevin Ceccon will start from 18th and 23rd place in the first race of the GP2 Valencia weekend, set to start tomorrow at 3 PM. The Qualifying run of Scuderia Coloni’s drivers was hampered due to a session badly influenced by traffic, like often happens on city tracks. With many drivers slowing down to create a gap ahead of them, getting a clean lap was not possible and a red flag in the last minute of the session was an unwelcome addition to that, preventing both drivers from improving their times.
So the starting positions for tomorrow’s race aren’t the ones that the team was expecting, but this doesn’t mean that Scuderia Coloni has given up on his chances for a good result: the Feature Race is still very long and this could give the drivers a chance to recover, together with the team’s pit-stop strategy.
Paolo Coloni: “Obviously we aren’t where we would like to be, but traffic is always an issue on city tracks and we must live with it. This will make our job more difficult tomorrow, but we think that a good result is still in our reach. The Feature Race is long and with what could happen on such a track the race management by the team will be very important.
Besides this we have Michael who really likes the track and made two very consistent races in 2010, while Kevin will keep progressing. Today was his first day on this track and he did what we asked him, we’re sure that in the race he will improve lap after lap as he did in Monaco”.
