Scuderia Coloni are continuing their troublefree approach to the 2012 GP2 season. The Italian squad confirmed themselves as one of the Series performance benchmarks also in Barcelona, where GP2 is holding the last test of the year. Today, in the first day of testing, Scuderia Coloni went on track with Dani Clos and Kevin Ceccon and both the Spaniard and the Italian youngster were quick straight out of the box, stopping the clocks respectively on the 2nd (1’29”810) and the 4th (1’29”978) quickest time of the day, both posted in the morning session. Then in the afternoon, the track being much slower due to the heat, the team decided not to chase performance, working on the race set-up and with higher fuel loads for most of the time; this didn’t stop their cars from being quick, with P5 for Ceccon, eight place for Clos and a huge amount of data to analyze, something that will be very useful when the Series will come back to Circuit de Catalunya for the 2012 races.

Dani Clos: “We had a really positive day, both from a performance and a technical point of view. I immediately felt at ease with the Scuderia Coloni car, and our second best time of the day is a testament to that. I could have been even faster, the quickest of the pack, without a mistake that cost me something like three tenths, but it’s fine anyway. The afternoon was also fine, we tested something different and things went as expected, so I want to thank the team for their great job and for making me feel at home from the very first moments, I hope we will have other opportunity to work together”.

Kevin Ceccon: “My feeling with the GP2 car is improving quickly, and today was another fruitful day. In the morning we were always quick, and my time is just inches shy of the ‘first row’, so I’m happy with that. Also in the afternoon everything went as planned: the track was slower so a quick laptime wasn’t our priority, but despite that I was very close to the lead and I could have been quicker without the red flag and some traffic that completely ruined one of my laps. I hope that tomorrow will be just as good”.
