The second season of GP2 Series will start on April 8th in Valencia, Spain, while the pre-season tests for the category will resume on February 22nd at the circuit Paul Ricard in France.
The news of the 2006 calendar is the start in the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo, located in Cheste. This means a change from their inaugural year when GP2 drivers and teams saw the green lights for the first time in Imola, San Marino alongside the begining of the 2005 Formula One season.
It also means a strong bet that the series will start their second season in a stand-alone event, without the top rung in motor racing: F1. The rest of the rounds will be with the company of F1 from Imola in the final weekend of April to the season close in Spa-Francorchamps, on September 17th.
Another change from 2005 is the no presence of Bahrain in the plans of the Series, the circuit in which GP2 finished it maiden season.
The pre-season tests will begin with 13 teams at Paul Ricard with twice on the schedule, the first will take place on Februar 22-23. Later, they will have another two days, March 16th to 17th at the French track. The category will later move to Spain to continue testing activity in Barcelona and will finish in Valencia, the same week of the season opening race.
