Jolyon Palmer to drive for Addax in Abu Dhabi GP2 Finals
British driver Jolyon Palmer will drive for current GP2 Team Champions Barwa Addax at the forthcoming GP2 Finals event in Abu Dhabi on 12/13 November.
The 20-year-old, one of the leading rookies in the main 2011 season, drove for Addax at the recent Jerez and Barcelona tests and was in the top ten on both days.
Jolyon will make his race debut with the team at next weekend’s non-championship event at Yas Marina, supporting Formula One. Palmer competed at the circuit in February this year during the GP2 Asia Series, and secured an impressive 10th place finish in race two.
Jolyon, who finished as runner-up in the FIA Formula Two Championship in 2010, said: “I am very happy to be driving for Addax in Abu Dhabi. I feel comfortable with the team, having recently completed two days of testing for them. With a year of GP2 experience now and having raced at Abu Dhabi at the start of the year, I am confident I will be able to run towards the front.”
Chris Murphy, Addax Technical Director, added: “Jolyon has made good progress with us during his two days of testing at Jerez and Barcelona, and following recent preparation on the Addax driving simulator he is ready to impress at a GP2 track at which he already has experience in his first GP2 season.”
The season-ending 2011 GP2 Final gets underway on 11 November with the opening practice session.
