The GP2 Main Series season came to an end this weekend in Monza, which saw iSport finish as the top UK team in 4th position in the Team Championship, and Sam Bird finish 6th and Marcus Ericsson 10th in the Drivers' Championship.

The weekend got off to a difficult start with both drivers being compromised in qualifying either with yellow flags or traffic. Race one saw both drivers make good starts with Sam having a strong first stint, and after another good pit-stop from the team, got up to P4 and held on to this to the finish. Unfortunately Marcus slid off onto the grass at the first corner resulting in aero damage dropping him to P25, however he worked his way back up and crossed the line in P14. For the Sprint race, Sam had another strong run to 4th, and Marcus gradually moved up to P8 from his P14 start, both drivers posting good times during the race.

Team Principal Paul Jackson

“Whilst iSport finish one place higher than the last 2 years, the season was not as successful as we hoped or expected with many incidents throughout the year preventing both drivers from taking the wins they deserved. However, the team still ended up maintaining the record of never finishing outside the top five in seven years of GP2. We had a great time and we would like to thank Sam and Marcus for contributing to an enjoyable year, where we have developed the new car and tyres together to a point where we have been quick in all conditions. We now look towards the next few weeks with testing in Spain to find next year’s driver pairing and to get the line-up for the ‘one off’ Abu Dhabi race in November. I would like to thank all members of our hard working team for their efforts this year. Everyone is determined to get back to the top next season and give our fans something to cheer about.”
