Chilton, Magnussen And Palmer To Test For Carlin
Carlin will be in Barcelona next week for an official two-day GP2 Series test with the team’s 2011 driver Max Chilton, who will be joined by Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer. Following on from an extremely productive test two weeks ago in Jerez, Carlin head to the Circuit de Catalunya with a detailed test plan.
Chilton ran with the Carlin GP2 outfit this year, and although he suffered from some bad luck when running in points paying positions, he was a strong qualifier and showed his pace during the races too.
Magnussen will test the GP2 car after a successful run with Carlin’s Formula Renault 3.5 squad earlier this week, while Palmer gets behind the wheel of the Carlin car on day two after spending the 2011 season with Arden Motorsport.
British F3 vice-champion Magnussen will be in the car for both days and after a strong Formula Renault 3.5 test last week in which he was quick around the Catalan circuit, is bound to feel confident about his first taste of GP2 machinery.
Chilton will be in his 2011 car on Wednesday where he will be focusing on race simulation and tyre wear – all of which is essential data for the team, before handing over to fellow British racer Palmer on Thursday.
Speaking ahead of the team’s test, Trevor Carlin, “Max will continue the great development we began in Jerez to make us even stronger next year. It will be good to have another experienced GP2 racer like Jolyon in the car and we look forward to his feedback. We know that Kevin is a very quick driver around Barcelona. It will be very interesting how quickly he adapts to the demands of the GP2 car over the two days. “
The final 2011 GP2 test will take place from 19 – 20 October.
