The long wait will be over this weekend at Barcelona, as the 2008 GP2 Series will finally go underway on the Spanish racetrack. The series, emerged as the reference point for all the drivers aiming for a Formula One approach, will run for its fourth consecutive season. Trident Racing will be fielding two cars for Briton Mike Conway and Chinese Ho Pin Tung. Mike, selected as a test-driver by Honda F1 for the speed skills shown in the preseason and for the professional and human approach with the rest of the team, will try to hit the top from the beginning. Ho Pin is coming from his first GP2 Asia Series season, eager to profit from the experience made to increase his chances for the 2008 Main Series. As happened before, the GP2 Main Series will benefit from a capillary Live TV Coverage from National TVs and satellite channels SKY and Eurosport. The Barcelona weekend will start on Friday, with a 30-minute practice session scheduled at 11:55, followed by Qualifying at 16:00. Race 1 will take off on Saturday on a 38-lap distance followed, on Sunday, by the the 25-lap Race 2, taking off at 10:30.

Q&A with Maurizio Salvadori, Trident Racing team owner.

What are the main innovations expected for this year`s GP2 Series?

"The main innovation, speaking from a technical point of view, is certainly represented by the new car, even closer to Formula One in terms of performance and safety standards. Thanks to the cars` specifications, the GP2 Series is definitely the best developmental championship to prepare for Formula One, and that goes for drivers as well as for the other components of the team”.

What about the drivers?

"In a single-make series, the drivers` choice is vital to determine the competitive level of a team. We`re pleased to field Mike for this year`s 2008 GP2 Series. The 24-year-old Briton was chosen as a test-driver by Honda F1 Racing Team, alongside regular drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. He`ll be partnered by Chinese Ho-Pin Tung, forming a well-mixed couple that will enable us to score great results".

What are your goals for the 2008 season?

"Our goal is always try to improve last year`s performances, and try to enter the top-3 in both the drivers` standings with Mike and in the teams` classification. My personal goal is to try repeat the outstanding win scored in 2007 at Monte Carlo, and sweep our home event at Monza, that will host the 2008 grand finale".
