Trident Racing has tough day at Montmelò

After a brilliant morning performance by Pastor Maldonado, Trident Racing encountered problems in qualifying, ending up behind expectations. At Catalunya Circuit, the Venezuelan was stopped by a mechanical problem, and wasn`t be able to exploit the full potential provided by the new tires.

He`ll start the second event of the 2007 GP2 Series season in 20., while Kohei Hirate is set to take off 4 spots in front of team-mate, in 16., due to the heavy traffic. Trident Racing is now set to put a full effort on Race 1, scheduled tomorrow at 16:00.

"Our qualifying session was planned in any detail; unfortunately, when Maldonado came in for his set of fresh tires, the car just stalled on pit-lane. Our mechanics managed to push-start it, but Pastor reported problems to first and second gear; in a successive pit-stop we did our best to fix the problem, but we run out of time. It`s a shame because Maldonado proved to be potentially among the fastest, especially on the first two sectors, but the last chicane was impossible to approach in third gear. Hirate wasn`t able to find the right feeling with the track, that he simply doesn`t like, and was then slowed down by the intense traffic. If we look at this morning`s sheet, both drivers and the team would have been able to enter the front rows..."
