BUEMI EARNS TWO POINTS... AND A FRONT-ROW START

Sebastien Buemi bounced back spectacularly from yesterday's qualifying accident to finish seventh in the opening race of the GP2 Series campaign at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.

Starting 18th, the Swiss driver swiftly moved up the field after the race began in chaotic fashion. The initial start was aborted, because Milos Pavlovic (BCN) stalled on the grid, and a multi-car accident at the first corner then led to the Safety Car being deployed. Every driver took the opportunity to make their mandatory tyre stop while the race was neutralised -- and quick work by the Trust Team Arden crew propelled Buemi straight into the top eight. With five laps to go he forced his way past Spanish rival Adrian Valles (FMS) to cement seventh place and secure a front-row start for tomorrow's sprint race.

His team-mate Yelmer Buurman's season did not start quite so brightly. The Dutchman, one of the first drivers to pit for fresh tyres, was running solidly in the midfield but failed to finish the race after sliding off the track.

Sebastien: "I made a great start, my first three laps were very good, we had a really good pit stop and I was pleased with our race pace. I had a little bit of understeer just after the start, but the balance improved as the race wore on. Our target was to score points, so I was pleased to finish seventh -- and tomorrow's front-row start is an added bonus. Clearly, our goal is to secure a podium finish in the sprint race."

Yelmer: "I made a good start and gained a couple of places, but because of an incident in front of me I had to ease up. I had problems with my rear brakes for most of the race and on lap 18 the fronts locked, too, so I went straight into the wall. As a result I'll only be 20th on the grid tomorrow, but my target is still to finish in the top six. That will be hard, but I'll give it my best shot."
