PIC AND MIX -- FRENCH STARLET MAKES FLYING START FOR ARDEN, GONZALEZ STRUGGLES

The 2010 GP2 Series began in earnest at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya today -- and Charles Pic made a promising start for Arden International. Having underlined his potential by finishing as top rookie in the recent GP2 Asia Series, the French teenager's rich vein of form continued when he set second fastest time during this morning's free practice session. After a customarily tight qualifying session, he will start tomorrow's 37-lap race from sixth place on the grid.

Returning to the Arden line-up for the first time since the beginning of the GP2 Asia Series, Venezuelan Rodolfo Gonzalez struggled to find a clear lap on a busy circuit and will line up 24th.

Charles:

"The free practice session was OK. We did one run to check the qualifying set-up and another to evaluate the race balance. Things seemed to be going well for us and I was happy to be second quickest.

"Conditions were faster in the early part of the qualifying session, because we went out just after the F1 cars had coated the circuit in fresh rubber. I made a small mistake in the third sector, however, and I think we might have taken a small step in the wrong direction in terms of set-up. Still, I think I have now learned how far I can push the car and sixth place is by no means a disaster. I can have a good race from there."

Rodolfo:

"There were lots of yellow flags during qualifying and I just didn't get a clear run. That's down to me, though, and I should have done better. The car was well balanced, but I was a bit short of grip and needed a little more downforce. Overall, though, I'm really disappointed. I have never previously qualified last for a race -- it's an unwanted new landmark. I know I'm a rookie, and not in a position to challenge for pole position, but a place in the top 10 to 15 was definitely achievable.

"I need to have a good, long think tonight, to work out how to improve things for tomorrow. I will push like crazy in the race, however, and pick up as many positions as I can. It's time to put today behind me and give it my all."
