This weekend, coinciding with the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, the 2009 season of the GP2 Series starts at Montmelo, and once again Javier Villa will be amongst the protagonists.

The Asturia-born driver faces his fourth season in the Formula 1 feeder series, in which he made his debut at the beginning of 2006 with Racing Engineering, becoming in 2007 its youngest winner after his race victory in Magny Cours when he was only 19 years old. A win followed by two more during the year is something that Javi hopes to repeat in 2009, after a 2008 season when luck was almost never on his side.

After three seasons with Alfonso D'Orleans' team, Villa will compete this year in the European series with Super Nova, the British team with a great tradition in the categories close to Formula 1 and with whom he has already taken part in the GP2 Asia Series during the winter break. The work done at the Asian tracks, as well as the excellent times set by Villa at the wheel of Super Nova's car in the two testing sessions of the GP2 European series that have been carried out in the pre-season, allow driver and team to start the year with real optimism and with a clear aim: to fight for first position in every race and in the championship.

There is nowhere better to begin a season that should be very important in Javier's career than to do it in front of his fans at Montmelo's circuit. This is a track he knows well and in whose grandstands there will be a great number of spectators supporting him from the start at free practice on Friday morning, followed by the ever important qualifying session where Villa is setting his sights on getting a good position on the starting grid for Saturday's feature race. The Sunday Sprint in the hours before the Formula 1 Grand Prix, will close the first weekend of the European GP2 series, where Javi hopes to offer good results for his fans.
