PIC JUST MISSES OUT ON POINTS FINISH
In the slipstream of his stunning victory in Barcelona yesterday, the second round of the GP2 Series was a quieter affair for Arden driver Charles Pic. After a delayed race start, to allow marshals to clean an oil-stained track, the Frenchman moved up from eighth to sixth before losing a place to Sam Bird (ART). As Bird moved up the order, Pic applied consistent pressure to Dani Clos (Racing Engineering), but was unable to make further progress and crossed the line just one second away from a points finish.
Team-mate Rodolfo Gonzalez was 14th after another solid midfield performance.
Charles: "I made a very good start and gained two positions, but I then made a mistake at Turn Four and Sam Bird overtook me. I was able to follow the cars ahead after that, but was never really close enough to overtake. It's a shame because we should have taken some points today. There is still work to do for future races, but my overall feelings from this weekend are very good. I have come away leading the championship, which is great for both me and the team. We now have to work on any weaknesses we have identified to make ourselves even stronger."
Rodolfo: "I think I did as much as I could after a disappointing qualifying session. I tried to take something positive from this race and am happy with the way I performed. I stayed out of trouble and clawed back some of the positions I lost at the start. I just need to work on a few things to improve my overall pace and I'm hoping for a stronger showing in Monaco."
