Direxiv Motorsport driver Hiroki Yoshimoto ended the GP2 season with a points finish, Clivio Piccione drove a strong race but just missed the points and there was disappointment for Olivier Pla and in race two at Bahrain. Yoshimoto (BCN) battled against a gearbox problem to take sixth place, while Piccione (Durango) followed him home in seventh after a battling drive. Pla (DPR) was totally out of luck and a broken gearbox in the warm-up session meant he was unable to start the race.
Hiroki Yoshimoto, BCN Competicion: 6th
"Given the car that I had, I really think that sixth was the very best we could have achieved so I am happy with that. The car was really improved from yesterday but I think there is still a problem with the differential or the gearbox I had to flick the lever maybe 30 times to change down for corners. This meant I had virtually no engine braking and because of this I was locking the wheels a lot. Because of this I am happy with sixth."
Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team: 7th
"That was a really action-packed race. I really enjoyed it. I made a great start and went around the outside at Turn 1 when everyone was queued on the inside. From there I was in the pack battling for sixth. Towards the end of the race my car was really good and I was able to pass Adam Carroll for seventh. I was quicker than Yoshimoto but there was just two laps left so I could only just catch him. But that was a positive way to end the season."
Olivier Pla, David Price Racing: retired
"What can I say? We have had so much bad luck this year it has been unbelievable. Sure, we have won two races, but that should have been three. I just hope that we will leave all the bad luck behind this year and have some good luck next year!"
Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport:
"Hiroki can be happy to have scored a point, he struggled with his car for the whole race and defended his position extremely well. Clivio deserved points for his spectacular drive today. Unfortunately for Olivier he was not even able to contend the last race of the season and that is not a satisfying end to the championship for him."
