It was another great race today for Javier Villa in today's 23 lap Sprint race at the Shanghai circuit in China, race 2 in the 2008 GP2 Asia Series.

Starting from 5th on the reversed grid following his excellent 4th in yesterday's Feature Race Javier made a clean start as the lights went off despite Yamamoto, who was next to him on the grid, stalling and he slotted into 5th place as the cars braked for the first corner. As the cars completed the first lap Javi was 0.6 seconds behind Petrov and he immediately closed in the early corners of the second lap and was looking for a way past. As the two cars entered the long straight towards the end of the lap Javi got a good tow and pulled out of the Russian's slipstream, for half the straight the two men were wheel to wheel but Javi was later on the brakes and he moved into 4th place.

The young Spaniard was now chasing Van Der Drift and although he was soon on the gearbox of the Trident car his rival was quick in a straight line and Javi had to plan his overtaking manoeuvre carefully. As the cars entered the long straight on lap 11 once again Javier timed his move perfectly using the slipstream of the other car to tow his Super Nova car into 3rd place as the cars braked for the tight right-hand corner.

Javier was now some nine seconds down on the second-placed Bamber but he was really flying and he soon began to close the gap while pulling away easily from Van Der Drift. By lap 15 Javi was 7.5 seconds behind and lap 16 saw the Super Nova car take another second off the leaders whilst Van Der Drift was now 5.7 seconds behind in 4th. On lap 18 Javi make a slight error under braking and ran wide off the track although he was quickly back on the tarmac with only a small loss of time.

Over the next three laps Javi reduced the gap to Bamber to 4.2 seconds and he set the point-scoring fastest lap of the race with a time of 1m 47.894s but with time running out he settled for third place at the flag.

Javier has quickly adapted to the GP2 Asia Series and he and his new team, Super Nova, are working together superbly. Javi is currently lying second in the Championship with 10 points and both he and Super Nova will be looking for even better results at Dubai on the 6-7 December.

Javier Villa own words:"It has been a good race. We started fifth and passed Vitaly and Van Der Drift, but overtaking the latter took a while and that meant the first two pulled away. When I finally went by Van Der Drift I started to push and I was recovering at a good pace, around 5 to 8 tenths per lap, even a second a lap sometimes. I got the fastest lap on the penultimate lap and I kept pushing to the end but I couldn't get them.

Fourth yesterday, third today with the extra point for fastest lap, I think is quite good for our first race weekend in GP2 Asia. The whole team did a great work and I'm sure we will go on improving race by race."
