QI-MERITUS.MAHARA comes home for the Malaysian Round 3/5 in GP2 Asia Series
QI-MERITUS.MAHARA is looking forward to the third Malaysia Round Friday, March 14, 2008 after the wet Indonesian race where QI-MERITUS.MAHARA team showed their competitiveness with both Luca Filippi the recently appointed Honda Formula One test driver on car no. 27 and Hiroki YOSHIMOTO on car no. 26 setting an excellent race pace. Malaysia will be the goal for points on occasion of a home race for the Malaysian based team.
Luca Filippi: "I have worked constantly since our Indonesian race. I have just returned from testing the GP2 car with the other teams on the short version of the Paul Ricard track in preparation of our European season. So I am very fit and ready for the next leg of the series and I'm enjoying my GP2 Asia experience. Now after two races, we know our team's true potential and we want to keep on pushing until the last race in Dubai. Even if it is a challenge and even if it will be difficult. I will go all out to be among the top three in the two races of the event. I am eager to also show my Honda team how hard I can compete."
As for Hiroki YOSHIMOTO (car no. 26), he arrived from the F1 Australian Grand Prix. "I know the track in Malaysia, because I drove GT on it, and now I am doing my fastest laps in the Meritus V6. It is an exciting and difficult track with a mix of everything from slow to fast corners. If you don't have enough grip, you will never be quick in Sepang. It is probably the secret of a good qualifying round followed by a good race. In any case, since our first race in Dubai where the team scored ten points on the occasion of the new series first event, I am proud of having scored six of our team's ten points. At the Indonesian race we demonstrated that our running pace was good. I am very confident with the progress of the Meritus Racing. Meritus has a fine tradition in motorsport and have won close to 30 titles in Asia during the past 12 years. They recently became the 2007 Formula BMW Asia champions with CIMB TEAM QI-MERITUS and Jazeman Jaafar, the first Malaysian and also the youngest to win the Series!
Speaking for the team Raad S. ABDULJAWAD Team Chairman Qi-Meritus.Mahara stated: "We are looking forward to race at the Malaysian Grand Prix, where it is QI-MERITUS.MAHARA's home race. We should be in a good position to score some points and give our fans something to cheer about."
Peter THOMPSON president and team founder, Qi-Meritus.Mahara: "Since our huge disappointment in Indonesia, the team worked a lot completely revising and rebuilding the cars for the third event of the new series. In addition the cars had to be freshly painted as well because they were seriously damaged by the stones and the gravel on the Indonesian track. Prior to the second Indonesian event, team Qi-Meritus.Mahara has organized a stop over at the Sepang International track so that the drivers can get comfortable with the track. We want to control the pressure and are determined to score points on our home track. One of our primary aims is to give a good show to our fans and team sponsors. We are looking forward to good results in Malaysia and will be glad to start on the track as soon as possible. On the technical front, we have also been looking forward to some more development and improvement for the third event."
