FAUZY AIMING FOR VICTORY AT HOME RACE

Sepang, Malaysia. Fairuz Fauzy is relishing the opportunity to race in front of his home crowd in the most important race of the year this weekend. The Malaysian will be gunning for victory as the season heads to the Sepang International Circuit, near Kuala Lumpur, for the third round of the new GP2 Asia Series.

Last time out Fairuz took his maiden GP2 victory at Sentul with a thrilling drive in challenging conditions. His success so far in 2008 means the 25-year-old still has a chance for overall glory and sits in fourth place in the standings, on 14 points.

"I can't wait to race this weekend in front of my home crowd," said the Super Nova ace. "It's such an important race and hopefully we'll have a lot of supporters cheering me on."

The weekend's GP2 Asia Series double-header races are supporting the Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix. And the feeder-series GP2 is a perfect chance for aspiring drivers to demonstrate their talent in front of the Formula 1 fraternity.

"This event will be quite special as it's the tenth anniversary of the first Malaysian Grand Prix and it's fantastic that there is now a Malaysia driver racing in the support series to the main event," says Fairuz. "It will be vital to put on a good show and try and impress the F1 bosses that will be watching the races."

The demanding, high-speed Sepang track is often characterised by stifling heat and humidity and drivers need to be in sharp physical shape for the conditions. The other concern with the weather in this part of the tropics is the sudden monsoon-type downpours that affect the racing. Still the hometrack advantage should weigh in Fairuz's favour.

"There will be a lot of pressure here at Sepang, but if we can put in a similar performance to Sentul then we should be in good shape. I really enjoying racing at Sepang and with a top team like Super Nova, I've no doubts that we can get a good result."

Fairuz has been busy in the build-up to this race with interviews with local press and he also appeared on a Malaysian late-night phone-in chat show to talk about GP2 Asia and Formula 1.
