HO-PIN TUNG SCORES FIRST POINT IN CHAOTIC GP-2 RACE

Ho-Pin Tung scored his first point in the Asia GP2- championship. The Chinese racing driver finished sixth in the second race of the season in Sentul, Indonesia. The whole weekend conditions were chaotic caused by appalling weather and the poor condition of the track in Sentul. Many cars were seriously damaged; more than half of the contenders did not make till the finish line in Saturdays' race. 'I am very happy that we could end this week end positively. The pace was there, we are competitive. The Trident-team deserved this good result; my team had to work in extreme conditions and they did a perfect job,' Ho-Pin commented.

Quite differently this second edition of the GP2-Asia championship started on Friday. The track was very dirty and the weather unpredictable, but most of the times wet. Stones on the tack caused a lot of damage to the cars and the safety car did overtime. In free practice, in soaking conditions, Ho-Pin did 15th, 1.66" from the top. In qualifying the young Chinese made it to 11th place on the grid. In the first race, on Saturday, Ho-Pin was pushed round in the opening lap, he had to quit afterwards, just like the greater parts of his fellow contenders. A lot cars were damaged because of the numerous stones on the track. Ho-Pin: 'I had two leaking radiators and a leaking oil cooler of the gear box.' 'His car looked if he were doing the Paris-Dakar rallye,' said one of his team colleagues.

Sundays' race had to be started behind the safety car, because of the rain. During the race the SC Sign was out another two times. 'The race itself took in fact not more than 7 laps,' Ho-Pin said joking. 'It was a difficult weekend with a happy end. We are now heading for the south of France for testing, like the rest of the teams and I do look forward to the next race in Malaysia'.
