GREAT DOUBLE FOR BARWA INTERNATIONAL CAMPOS TEAM IN LOSAIL, QATAR

It would be difficult to imagine a better weekend for the Barwa International Campos Team at the home track of its main sponsor. After the second and third placings in both the official qualifications and the first race, the drivers Sergio Perez and Vitaly Petrov have achieved a great double with first and second place on the winners rostrum, dominating the race from start to finish. There is no doubt that the team and sponsors can feel more than satisfied with the performances this weekend.

Right from the start both drivers made flying starts and from their initial 6th and 7th positions on the grid, they managed to quickly climb through the field and get to the end of the straight with Vitaly leader and Sergio second after a great overtaking move.

From this moment the battle began between team-mates, with Vitaly adopting a more conservative attitude trying to preserve his tyres while Sergio attacked until he found himself out in front. The two drivers of Barwa International Campos Team set a tough pace that none of their rivals was able to cope with and at the halfway point of the race they led the rest of the field by more than 7 seconds. Hulkkenberg got away from the chasing group in an effort to close the gap. Sergio, with a class that defied his rookie status replied to the pressure of the German driver putting in similar lap times to keep him at bay. Vitaly also controlled the gap between himself and the ART team driver. Both drivers demonstrated that they were superior to the rest and nothing was going to spoil their weekend.

After having become the youngest driver to win a GP2 race, Sergio Perez, with this his second victory has moved up to fourth in the drivers championship. He has been a revelation in this Asian GP2 Series being the only rookie to have won 2 races and he is now looking to fight it out with the best for the championship. Vitaly Petrov, with his usual consistency has climbed in the overall rankings and is now in the leading places only one victory away from the second placed driver. It was a real shame that health problems affected his performance in Bahrein. In the team championship Barwa International Campos Team have made it clear that with the results of this weekend that they intend to challenge for the team title and not only have they consolidated their second position overall but they also have reduced the gap between themselves and the overall leaders. The 26 points picked up this weekend must be another record for the Spanish team. The team also appreciates the unconditional support of their main sponsor and host for this event, the Qatari company, Barwa. Together they have written a glorious page in the history of this championship here in Losail.

Sergio Perez: "I was a little surprised to make such a good start and I saw that the rest closed the inside line to the right. Razia almost pushed me out onto the grass but in the braking and the outside line that I took on the first bend I was surprised to find myself behind Vitaly in second place. I tried to consolidate my second position. Vitaly didn't want to make any mistakes and I didn't want to us to collide but I had the opportunity and I got past him. After I tried to preserve the tyres because we learned yesterday that the wear and tear here is important. Being out in the lead I was able to control things without having anybody to pressure me.

I don't know how many points there between myself and the overall leaders but I'm only taking this one step at a time and from weekend to weekend. I'll try to win in Malaysia and do the best I can to pick up as many points as I can. I'll be very happy if I can finish the championship well".

Vitaly Petrov: "I made a good start which allowed me to fight back from sixth to first place. However, I started the race a bit conservatively as I didn't want wear the tyres. When Sergio overtook me I made it easy for him because I didn't want a collision. Tonight, we changed the set up on the car for this race to prolong the tyres. I kept a safe distance from Sergio and I'm very happy with the result.

The weather conditions were much better today than they were yesterday. The track was hotter but I didn't feel there was much difference from yesterday's race. In Dubai and Shanghai we had problems but now we have found the level of competitivity we were looking for and now I hope we can keep it up until the end of the season. Here we have received the fruits of our hard work leading up to here to show our gratitude to Barwa at their home circuit".
