My Qi Meritus.Mahara welcomes GP2 Asia 2009's new venue and night event in Qatar
Wednesday, December 17th 2008 - Qatar will now replace the second Dubai event of the GP2 Asia Series 08-09 calendar. The venue will be the Losail circuit located about 12 km to the north of the capital Doha with the race taking place on 6-7 February 2009 effectively replacing the second Dubai event previously scheduled for the end of February 2009.

ABDULJAWAD, My Qi-Meritus team chairman says: "Qatar is not only a new addition to our calendar, but it also marks an excellent decision as Qatar is one of the strong emerging markets of the of Gulf Coast Cooperation Council (GCC). The diversification of the GP2 Asia series calendar is an excellent business opportunity for our sponsors. Qatar is a location successful development activities with lots of projects are taking place in this part of the world. This race will provide a new exciting challenge for all thirteen teams and twenty-six drivers in the series. I am proud that My Qi-Meritus.Mahara will take part in the first ever GP2 Asia event at the Losail International Circuit ."
Peter Thompson, team owner: "I am really looking forward to the second part of the season that will start with the third round at SAKHIR in Bahrain 23-24 January 2009 and will continue at the Losail International Circuit in QATAR on 6-7 February 2009 with the the entire race weekend taking place at night. Our team and two drivers - Alex Yoong and Earl Bamber - are ready not only to compete in this first historical event for GP2 as but they are also ready to compete in the four last rounds of the championship aiming at a higher position than fourth in the championship standings. We won this year in Singapore at the first ever race night event. Singapore proved to be a success, generating tremendous spirit amongst fans and spectators all over the world: we are confident that the GP2 Asia Series will emulate the same feeling and same kind of dramatic action in Qatar. The Losail circuit is very well equipped with full facilities. The track itself is 5,380 meters long and 12 meters wide. The longest straight is 1,068 meters with a total of 10 right and 6 left corners.
