It has been a positive first contact with the GP2 Asia Series for Javier Villa at Shanghai's Chinese circuit. The 'Racing for Spain' driver finished feeling very happy with the work done during both days of tests run before the beginning of the Championship, which starts this weekend as part of the Chinese Grand Prix celebration.

For Villa almost everything was new in these tests, besides not knowing the track, it was also his first experience at this level with a team other than his usual one during the European GP2 series, Racing Engineering, who are not present in the Asian series. Javier enters the GP2 Asia Series with SuperNova and to start laying the foundations with the British team was the principal aim for the Spaniard in these two days of tests in Shanghai.

During the first day, Javi and his team-mate, the Briton James Jakes, carried out a brief shakedown at the wheel of the SuperNova's GP2 car, and in the afternoon they began to run with more continuity. The Spaniard focusing on adapting the adjustments of the car to his driving style while looking for the best possible feeling in a car that is the same model as the one that provided his major victories in the European GP2 series, the first generation Dallara that was used in the F1 feeder series up to the end of the 2007 season and the car that all the teams use in the GP2 Asia Series.

On the second day of tests, without looking for a quick laptime, Villa finished both sessions, in the morning and the afternoon, well placed in the final table, registering the sixth fastest time in both. This was a very satisfactory result, especially as this fulfilled the aim to start learning about the new team as well as the difficult Chinese track, where his debut in the GP2 Asia Series will be from Friday, the 17th of October, when practice for the first race weekend of the championship begins.

Day 2

Javier Villa's own words:

"These have been two days of hard work, especially seeking to gell with SuperNova after so many years of competing with the same team so everything was new. We have sought to adapt the car to my driving style and the aim was not to look for fast times but to see how to work better, so to be sixth in both final day sessions is positive. I am very happy as it all has gone quite well, I felt very comfortable and we have extracted a lot of data that I hope will be useful to allow us to be amongst the fastest in the races next week."
