Brakeless Bakkerud bows out

Christian Bakkerud's miserable GP2 Asia series continued into the penultimate round of the championship when he was forced out of the race when he began to lose brake pressure and his promising fight through the field ended in once again in retirement.

Christian comments - "I made up a lot of places from the start and was in 12th place with 15 laps to go when it was obvious that I had a serious brake problem and it was too dangerous to continue. I was a lot quicker than the guys in front and was attacking Karun Chandhok but my brake pedal kept getting longer and longer and I had no alternative than to pit. We have since found out that a seal in the brake calliper had perished and air was leaking in. I made a great start and was really looking forward to a decent finish today to be able to have something to build on for tomorrow but it wasn't to be. I won't give up though and will keep fighting for the points that I think I deserve!"

The final race of the 2008 GP2 Asia series takes places tomorrow Saturday at 13:00 local time.
