Desert difficulties for Bakkerud

Christian Bakkerud's qualifying session today did not turn out as he wanted. Having been in the top five on used tyres he failed to make the most of his new rubber resulting in him ending up in a disappointing 15th position.

For the race the Dane devised an aggressive pit stop strategy with his team, Super Nova Racing, to allow him to run on a clear track to try and make up places. After useful opening laps in which he gained several positions he came in for pit stop but as he emerged from the pit lane, Christian got caught up in a gaggle of cars. He managed to fend them off for a few laps until his tyres warmed up but unfortunately Sebastian Buemi who was right on the Dane's tail, made a mistake which sent Christian off and unable to regain the race.

"I'm bitterly disappointed" said Christian from the Dubai Autodrome. "Having messed up qualifying I made a decent start and you only have to look at where Buemi finished to see that I would have been in the points and would have been able to look forward to starting on the front row of the grid tomorrow had I not been pushed off."

"The video is very clear and I have nothing more to say on the incident. I will do my outmost to make up as many places as possible tomorrow and have a good race".

Race two starts at 13:00 hrs local time tomorrow, Saturday 26th January. Each round of the GP2 Asia series is being screened on Eurosport.
