Qi-Meritus.Mahara takes three valuable points in Bahrain
The 23 lap second race at Bahrain took place in sunny and dry conditions. On the grid Hiroki Yoshimoto was 12th while Luca Filippi had to start from 25th after the problems in the first race. The second day ended up bringing three points and a fourth place for Hiroki Yoshimoto and a strong eleventh place finish after a spirited drive from Filippi, who had started 25th.
Luca Filippi, the recently appointed Honda Formula One test driver commented: "I had a good first lap and already made it to midfield. It was quite hard and tough out there and to be honest, I think we did the most we could do. After avoiding the first corner problems, I was watching out to keep the car in one piece. The race was ok and I had a good rhythm for the first part of the race and passed a number of cars until I got to 12th position. As I was attacking a lot and passed a lot of the other drivers I had a contact with Belgium Jerome d'Ambrosio who touched me and I had to let Hanley go by, but I did not give up and in the last corner I passed Jerome again and finished 11th."
Hiroki Yoshimoto finished in a well deserved fourth position having started from 12th and commented: "It was a good start despite the incident at first corner with cars flying around. I thought that Sebastien Buemi was going to hit me when he cut the second corner and came out in front of me. I lost acceleration and had to back off. A few cars passed me again. I was soon back up again in sixth position and had gained six places. I found my pace and on the sixth lap, I managed to climb to fifth. Then it was a bit hairy with a lot of action and I managed to find a way through it all to finish fourth. I never stopped pushing and am proud to have a good finish I dedicate these points to my team with just one regret is that I did not make it to the podium this time."
Peter Thompson, president and team founder, Qi-Meritus.Mahara: "We came to Bahrain with a lot of hopes and I am over the moon with these three points. Finally the team scores again. It looks good for next race. The team did a good job in race 2 and I want to thank everyone for their dedication. We are looking forward to showing our true potential in Dubai for the final race in one week's time and I hope that the two drivers will be in a point finish this time."
