Buurman reunites with the Portuguese team to join Leimer
The GP2 Asia Series arrives in Bahrain this weekend for the final two rounds of the championship. On this occasion, Ocean Racing Technology will reunite with Yelmer Buurman, who raced for them twelve months ago when they first joined the series, and will now partner Fabio Leimer on the Sakhir circuit.
For the four races set to be disputed in Bahrain, the Dutch and Swiss racers will have the role of gathering important data, which will be invaluable to the team for the upcoming GP2 Main Series, while also giving their all to finish in the points.
Yelmer will make his return to Ocean Racing Technology and will replace Max Chilton, who is under contract with another team for the final two GP2 Asia Series events; however, the English racer will still join Tiago Monteiro and Jose Guedes' team for the GP2 Main Series.
"First of all I'm very happy to be back with Ocean... let's catch a wave! Two days ago I received a call from Tiago and he asked me if I would be ready to race in Bahrain. I was really excited. GP2 is the feeder series for F1 but it is very difficult to find budgets for a race season with a top team. It was a last minute call, I had a quick night and I will arrive in Bahrain late, so we will still have to do the seat fitting but I'm delighted. I know the GP2 Series and I know Ocean Racing Technology is a very good team," Yelmer said. "Even though I have not driven this car for a year or so I hope to be at the front of the field, especially in the second race weekend when GP2 races together with the season opening F1 race. I am very grateful to Tiago and his team for this unique opportunity and I will do my very best to make a good impression. Outside of this I would like to thank my sponsors. I cannot wait to get back in the car again!"
"I'm very happy to give Yelmer another opportunity to race in the GP2 Series because he truly deserves it. Yelmer was the first driver Ocean Racing Technology signed at the end of 2008 and it is a very special feeling to work together again," said Tiago Monteiro. "Yelmer is genuinely competitive, he is a clever man and a driver with whom all the team were pleased to work with. Ocean took a step forward since our last partnership and I'm sure Yelmer will do a very good job and have what he needs to shine in Bahrain."
After four races Ocean Racing Technology is currently fifth in the team classification but the Portuguese squad is prepared for the upcoming two rounds that are particularly demanding. The forecast for Bahrain sees the sun shining brightly and pushing the mercury beyond 30C with the added issue of sand that often disturbs the plans of most teams. The Bahrain races will be broadcasted on chain Eurosport 2 chain, the first of which will take place on Friday February 26th at 09:45, the second on Saturday February 27th at 1:30 PM U.K. time.
