MAX CHILTON FIGHTS BACK TO FINISH TWELFTH. SERGIO HAMPERED AFTER ACCIDENT ON THE FIRST LAP.

In the second GP2 Asia Series race, which took place today at the Sakhir circuit of Barhain, the Barwa Addax Team have finished twelfth in the case of Max Clinton and Sergio Perez has finished in a lowly seventeenth place, after being affected by an incident with Alvaro Parente on the first lap.

Sergio Perez saw his hopes of achieving a great result completely ruined as early as the first lap. Sergio started from second on the grid and made a good start. He held off Alvaro Parente at every corner in the most complicated sector of the circuit until he went inside on one corner and was hit by the Portuguese driver, which destroyed his front spoiler. It meant that he had to come into the pits for immediate repairs and when he got back out on the track he was right at the back of the field. The Barwa Addax Team driver started setting a magnificent rhythm and for a long period of the race he had the fastest lap time, which was only improved by thousands of a second. This goes to show that Sergio and the team were well prepared for fulfilling the objective of getting an important result.

Max Chilton drove a fine race. After having started from a lowly nineteenth on the start grid, he was able to fightback and finishin a creditable twelfth position. The young British driver set a very good race pace, which meant he was able to stay with the main group of drivers in the middle of the field. It shows that he is adapting quickly to the higher demands of the GP2 class. He had to start from an uncomfortable position and he could do no more than he did due to being held up by slower cars throughout the course of the whole race.

Sergio Perez: "The contact with Alvaro was a really unfortunate incident, because we couldn't demonstrate how well we had been working throughout the whole weekend. Anyway, looking on the positive side, we are here with the purpose of preparing for the Main Series and we have managed to improve the car thanks to everybody's hard work. However, it would have been great to have won for the Barwa Addax Team because they really deserved it after all their efforts these past few days."

Max Chilton: "Even though it hasn't been the best of weekends, I have to feel satisfied that I'm fulfilling my main aim, which is to learn and gain as much experience as I can. This weekend I've finished in both races and in the practice sessions too, where I've tried to get in as many laps as possible. I've worked really hard alongside the Barwa Addax Team. I'm sure that we will get our just desserts for all the hard work we are doing. The results are just a question of time."

The next and the last event of the Asia GP2 championship will take place at the same circuit of Sakhir in Barhain, from the 12th-14th March. This time it will be the support event to the first Grand Prix of the 2010 Formula 1 season.
