The 2011 GP2 Asia Series has finally taken-off today at the Abu Dhabi racetrack, where teams and drivers lined-up for the first qualifying session of the season. After a really promising run in practice, Trident Racing was left behind expectations in the battle for Race 1's grid. Stefano Coletti scored 19th place, while Rodolfo Gonzalez ended up in 23th.
The team's engineers are now working in order to get the cars ready for tomorrow's race, which is set to feature many new variables starting from the long-run performance and wear curve of the Pirelli tires. The race will kick off at 16:55 local time (GMT+4) on a 31-lap distance. Live TV coverage will be provided in Italy by DTT network RaiSport 2.
Stefano Coletti (19th 1:37.329)
"It's been a weird session, because I always felt I had a really well-balanced car. I thought I was going to be extremely competitive, but as I looked at the laptimes I knew we would have been far from the top. With the engineers, we're investigating a general lack of grip. Tomorrow's one will be a tough race, but with such many new variables for everyone we'll have to take it like it will unfold."
Rodolfo Gonzalez (23th 1:37.669)
"The set-up seemed quite good in general to me, and I'm a little surprised for my laptime. I felt a general lack of grip, and another problem in the rear of the car that we're investigating. I had the impression that something was wrong with a rear suspension on several places around the track, plus some abnormal steering wheel reactions".
