BARWA ADDAX TEAM SATISFIED WITH RESULTS OF TESTS AT PAUL RICARD CIRCUIT IN FRANCE
Over the last week the last winter tests for this 2009 season, have taken place in Le Castellet, Paul Ricard. It has given all the teams and drivers to get to know each other even better, with the 2010 GP2 Series season the main goal ahead of all concerned. Barwa Addax Team has been fortunate enough to count on both drivers competing in the Asia GP2 Series 2009-2010, Luiz Razia and Max Chilton as well as the more experienced Jerome D'Ambrosio and two up and coming drivers like Christian Vietoris and Marcus Ericsson.
Jerome D'Ambrosio, started strongly on the first day's testing with the Spanish team. He showed signs of his class and set a consistent series of times and finished 4th in the morning session. He finished 7th in the afternoon, despite having gear box problems. This meant he spent more time in the pit lane than out on track and was unable to set many lap times. He would probably have been higher up in the rankings as he was in the morning session.
Luiz Razia is maturing as a driver every time he comes into contact with the car. He was quick right from the start and it all looked easy as he finished second at the end of the morning session. In the afternoon he went one step better, finishing the session with the fastest lap time. His overall level throughout the day's testing goes to show just how good this driver is and how well he is working alongside the Barwa Addax Team. One hopes that he can convert these performances into good results in the present Asia GP2 Series.
Max Chilton, the young British driver, was the only driver to drive more than one day with the team, in his status as official driver for the team in the present Asia GP2 Series. Max has consolidated his performances at this level finishing both days mid-table in the list of fastest times. If he hadn't had engine failure in the afternoon session on the first day, as well as another series of little mishaps on the second afternoon, he probably would have improved on his times. However, Chilton is working well and his progress will bring its fruits before too long.
Christian Vietoris has already worked with the Barwa Addax Team in the Jerez tests so the team knows all about the great potential of this young German driver. He had a great session in the morning, finishing 5th. In the afternoon, he set the fastest time at the start on used tyres but technical problems meant he was inactive for most of the session. He came out on track 10 minutes before the end of his stint to get in a few laps. Despite all the niggling problems he finished the session 11th and only three tenths off the fastest lap time.
Marcus Ericsson, wasn't very fortunate on the third day of testing. The track was slower than on the previous days and he also had a lot of technical problems. When the team set him up with new tyres his progress was thwarted by heavy traffic and it wasn't until the eighth attempt that he managed to set a decent time, but by then the tyres had passed their best condition. Nevertheless, Ericsson left a very good impression with all members of the Barwa Addax Team and they all predict a good future for this young driver.
This has been the last series of tests for the 2009 GP2 Main Series. Next season will get under way with the first series of tests for the 2010 season, and once again they will be held at the Paul Ricard circuit. Most of the teams will be there with their official drivers, who will be competing for them in the 2010 event.
