Circuit de Monaco
Giedo Van Der Garde 2nd Consecutive Pole. Charles Pic 12th.
Good Classification For Barwa Addax Team In Monaco.
The driver of Barwa Addax Team, Giedo van der Garde, has landed his second consecutive pole position after having been the quickest in the qualifying session this afternoon at the street circuit of Montecarlo. Team mate Charles Pic, finished the qualification 12th having been hampered several times in a session that was full of incidents.
The drivers of the Spanish team, were out early trying to set good lap times. Giedo on the fourth lap set a time that placed him 4th , whereas Charles on the same lap posted the 6th fastest time. Next time round, van der Garde set a time of 1.22.755 which gave him 1st position in the rankings, with the fastest time in both the first and second sectors and a personal best time on the third.
After a red flag, all drivers made a second attempt to improve on their times. Giedo waited till lap 15 to set what was to be the fastest lap time of the session with a personal best on the first sector and fastest times on the second and third. With only 1 minute 24 seconds left of the session, nobody came close to his magnificent time of 1.21.781, which meant another pole position was his. Charles Pic had to make do with 1.23.077, leaving him 12th on the starting grid. He was unlucky because on several occasions he had set fast times on the first two sectors but he was often affected by yellow flags or accidents which prevented him from setting a very fast lap.
Giedo van der Garde and Barwa Addax Team increase their lead by 2 points thanks to the pole and continue to set the standard in both the driver’s and team championships.
With the timetable for the event being different here in Monaco, the GP2 first race is tomorrow at 11.10 in the morning.
