York City Ladies Racing Team's Jo Kraemer recorded her best ever finish yesterday (Sunday 30th June) at Brands Hatch, Kent, finishing 21st (out of 27 starters) in round eight of the Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cup.

She said: "I had a couple of problems in qualifying so unfortunately I started at the back of the grid but the race was really good and I'm very happy with the result. I wasn't that far off the pace of the leaders and I had a good, clean battle with one of the guys for the entire race."

After her recent mishaps, Kraemer was just pleased to cross the finish line and complete the race - especially after she nearly came unstuck on the first lap. One rival lost control after the first corner, went into a spin and was hit by another competitor, which caused the first car to burst into flames.

She said: "It was a bit of a mess and I couldn't see past the crash so I had to make a decision, left or right. I chose left and actually drove through the flames! Thankfully that was the right move, I think if I'd gone right I would have hit the car as well!"

Thankfully no-one was seriously injured in that first corner incident.
